Principal’s Message

Marion Gammon

Thank you for visiting our Duncan MacMillan High School web site, home of the the "Eagles"! DMHS was formally opened on November 22, 1963. Our students travel by Stock school buses and are picked up daily from communities between Ecum Secum and East Ship Harbour to attend our Halifax Regional School Board Education Facility.

Our website is one avenue for communication exchange between teachers, students, parents, community members and administration.

The 2008 student assessment results reported by the Minister to parents and guardians included the following DMHS data:

Grade 9-Junior High Literacy Assessment- administered May 2008    There were 38 students who participated in this recent assessment, 89% met the reading expectations and 97% met the writing expectations. In the same assessment, the percentages listed for Nova Scotia were the 85% met the reading expectations, while 92% met the writing expectations. Our students surpasses the Nova Scotia expectations in both reading and writing! Details can be viewed at http://plans.ednet.ns.ca/content/ministers-report-parents Our students and staff will continue to focus on Math, Literacy and Citizenship goals to address identified gaps and support individual student progress.

A huge "eagle" thank you to all our volunteers who make the extra's happen and support our students as they soar to new heights!

We would like to hear from you so please email us with your suggestions, comments or concerns.

Closing thoughts ...

Make your day a masterpiece

And Do your very best

Put your whole self into it with energy and zest

Look up and laugh, be positive,

Say “yes” to this new day

Turn problems into challenges

To spur you on your way . . .
