Principal’s Message
Mrs. Marion Gammon

Thank you for visiting our Duncan MacMillan High School web site, home of the the "Eagles"! DMHS was formally opened on November 22, 1963. Our students travel by Stock school buses and are picked up daily from communities between Ecum Secum and East Ship Harbour to attend our Halifax Regional School Board Education Facility.

The 2010-11 student assessment result showed:
CAT 4 - Grade 8 DMHS students Literary Texts = 91% ( Halifax Regional School Board  students scored 82%). DMHS students have increased steadily in the past years from 74%-78%-91%. DMHS Assessment- 93% of grade 7; 85% of grade 8; 97% of grade 9; 94% of grade 10; 48% of grade 11; and 97% of grade 12 students scored 60% or greater with regard to Thought and Details in Persuasive Essays. Grade 9 JHLA results show 84% reading compared to 84% with HRSB  students and 81% in the province. Our students scored 81% in writing compared to 94% HRSB and 94% in the province

Math - CAT 4 - DMHS students scored 72% competent (HRSB's students scored 68%). Our DMHS school Math assessment showed grade 7=49% increase; Grade 8-51%; Grade 9-48%; Grade 10-37%; Grade 11-10%; Grade 12-17% increase in number concepts.

Citizenship-Positive Effective Behavior Structure is at the core of our citizenship goal. Missing assignments have greatly declined as a result of providing academic support for all of our students. Academic support will continue for all of our students this year. (Senior time is 12:05-12:35 and Junior time is 12:35-1:05pm). Both our Out of school and in-suspensions declined. 89.4% of our parents reported that  our school is a safe place. 70% of senior and 75% of junior students reported that they follow the Code of Conduct!

The Minister report to parents and guardians can be viewed at http://plans.ednet.ns.ca/content/ministers-report-parents Our students and staff will continue to focus on Math, Literacy and Citizenship goals to address identified gaps and support individual student progress.

A huge "eagle" thank you to all our volunteers who make the extra's happen and support our students as they soar to new heights!

Your suggestions, comments or concerns are always welcome. Please give us a call or drop by to chat!
